Renovating Cachouane school

In Cachouane, the school is much more than a building.
It is a place for meeting, learning, and hope.

Today, we are officially launching our donation campaign: “Renovate the Cachouane School.”
We have chosen to move forward step by step, starting with the essentials: providing children with a safe and dignified learning environment.

The primary school in Cachouane currently welcomes 50 children, divided into 5 classes across 2 buildings.
All children from the village attend school, and the school also receives students from neighboring islands.

The building exists, but it has significant structural weaknesses:

egarding the cafeteria, local residents had previously built a makeshift structure. It functioned for a while but lasted only one year due to insufficiently sturdy materials.

Today, there is no operational cafeteria. Children must go home for lunch, sometimes walking several kilometers. This disrupts their routine as well as that of their families.

What we aim to do ?

Nous voulons agir sur deux points concrets :

✔ Renovate the Roof
Replace the damaged metal sheets so that both buildings can be used year-round, even during the rainy season.
Materials will be purchased locally and transported by pirogue.

✔ Build a Durable Cafeteria
Construct a sturdy building behind the school, dedicated to the cafeteria.
The operation is already planned:

• 2 to 3 local mothers taking turns, volunteering

• Service from Monday to Friday

• Food supplied by partner associations

• Cooking equipment already available in the village

All 50 children will benefit.

The work will take place during school holidays, in collaboration with village residents and as part of a youth project from France.
This project will allow young participants to engage directly on the ground, discover a new region and culture, and experience a meaningful human adventure based on solidarity and sharing.

Materials are expensive, especially when they need to be transported to a remote village. The budget reflects the actual needs of the project:

• €500 for roof renovation (purchase of metal sheets and other materials)

• €3,500 for the construction of the cafeteria building, including:

  • 6 tons of cement

  • Iron, concrete, wood, zinc, metal sheets

  • Binding wire, nails

  • Work of a qualified mason to supervise the construction

The remainder covers additional costs related to materials, transport, and project organization.
